About Green Bench

Created in 2001 at William G. Enloe high school, Green Bench started as just a dream for John Holland and co-founder Jamal Whitted. It was a way to express the mind and talents of the two through art. After graduating high school in 2003, Jamal attended UNC-Pembroke, while John went to North Carolina A&T State University.

While attending the university, John started out as a marketing major, but still continued doing small video work on the side for fun, and eventually changed his major over to broadcast production once he realized where his true calling was. In his last semester as a marketing major, during a long, agonizing class of accounting, he wrote the first Green Bench skit, "The Blocker". It was bases on a character who would always popped up and ruin a romantic moment.

Upon showing his friends the script, the group decided to go ahead and actually make the video, instead of letting it sit around and be forgotten. The video was finished in 2005, and starred Rickey Baskett, Ronell Cousar, Jamaal R. Fisher, Larnell harris, L.J. Denning, Jason Brown, and John Holland.

After completion of the video, John decided to send the video to a few friends over the internet, but somehow the link to the video got out and was sent around. Weeks later, John received word that the video had actually become very popular on several internet websites. After hearing all the positive feedback, the guys decided to make another video, this time; it was a spoof of The Wizard of Oz called, "The Hood of Oz". It brought in Louis Hatcher. Following that was "Green Bench Commercials", which brought in Nicholas Travis. William Blue would be brought in the following year.

Fans of all sizes, ages, color and class, 3 million views, 40 sketches, 6 shows, 8 commercials and numerous news articles and features later, Green Bench is still kicking out videos left and right, entertaining the masses through their hilarious brand of "On the Edge Comedy". Although edgy, each video has an underlying message, whether it is the negative affects of stereotypes in America, or the current degradation of Hip Hop. The videos also show off the talents of the cast. All music is original, the singing is real and the plots are original.

Currently, Green Bench is working on getting to national television, as well a series of DVDs to be released starting in 2008. The DVD features all the hilarious sketches from the days when it was just a small hand held camera and some lamps to the fancy camera and microphones sketches.

Green Bench is also giving back to the communities that helped get them to where they are. As former college students, they know the hardships and being poor college, so they've created an affiliate program as part of their DVD sales to allow for students, as well as non-students to make money through selling the DVD themselves. Each affiliate will earn a percentage of each sale they make, and more if they get others to sign up. It's just Green Bench's way of saying thank you for all the love and support.

Where will Green Bench go next? Only time will tell, but as long as the camera is rolling, they'll continue to keep you rolling.
